INTRODUCTION:

Welcome to my website, as you found your way here perhaps it’s safe to assume that you already know something about me and my early associations with the London Scene of 1976-77.

Many people are intrigued by those early days of what would later become known as ‘Punk’, although it defied description and didn’t get its name for quite some time, having taken everyone somewhat by surprise. Unless you fall within a certain age group you would be forgiven for not being aware of the pressing need for change in mid-seventies London, or just how far removed my hairstyle; clothes and make-up were from the fashions of the time. Since the days that the photographs and video were first recorded my face has appeared in many places.

You may have seen me in one or more of the many books about fashion, hairdressing or more likely specifically Punk; either inside – or even on the cover. You could have watched one of a variety of TV programmes, with subjects ranging from Margaret Thatcher to The Who, that contain an endlessly recycled short clip of me looking the cameraman up and down. If you saw ‘The Filth and the Fury’ you will have heard John Lydon talking about me, saying that ‘it took skill, style and bravery – to look like a cat’. You might have seen the Sheppard Fairey Obey artwok entitled ‘Catwoman Swindle’ or seen the trilogy St. Valentine’s Day episode of The Simpsons called ‘Love, Springfieldian Style’ in which I was given a cameo appearance.

My face has been out there for a long time and my feelings are perhaps understandably mixed about this, especially since it was never my intention to search for my fifteen minutes of fame. I also haven’t had the best of health down the years, which is one of the reasons I took the decision to have a private life. It seems to me that after reading or hearing a few accounts of myself (often written by people I have never met) that fell short of the mark, the only choice left open to me is to put things in their proper perspective and tell my story – as only I can.

So welcome to my site, I hope you will enjoy your visit and I also hope to dispel a myth a two by being here. I have written a brief biography which you can read by clicking here.
